Some houses seem to have potential buyers just lying in wait, ready to pounce as soon as the for-sale sign goes up. 210 Isabel Street is one. It was for sale for two days before the owners accepted an offer. It was just sold in 2018, and then it took three days.
The house is a gorgeous Craftsman, two-stories and 3,000 square feet. The $575,000 price comes out to $190 per square foot, which sounds like a lot (and it is), but Fisher Park’s finer houses have been going for as much as $250 per square foot recently.
The house was built in 1923 by John L. Latham (1891-1950), president of Latham Cotton Company and secretary of J.E. Latham Co. James Edwin Latham developed Latham Park and built homes in Fisher Park, including many Aladdin kit houses. But to John he was just good old Uncle James. That made John a cousin of James’s daughter May Latham Kellenberger. May’s husband, John, was a vice president of J.E. Latham Company. The Kellenbergers were big-time civic leaders in Greensboro for decades. They created the Miramichi estate in eastern Guilford County, a National Register property. There weren’t that many rich people in Greensboro back then. They probably all knew each other.
